A program leader at Canada’s national Research Council specializing in Learning and Performance Support Systems, Downes also authors the widely read OLDaily Newsletter. He is known for his work in learning networks and connectivism, as the co-inventor of the MOOC, for helping develop the concept of the personal learning environment, and for promotion and definition of free learning and open educational resources.
